Week 2 Statistics Delayed

Monday, September 8th, 2008

Due to an issue with my hosting provider, I’m not able to upload the data for week 2. My provider told me it could be a couple of days before the issue is resolved. It’s not the timely problem resolution I was expecting, so I will be using a new hosting provider after the season (if not sooner).

I’m sorry for the delay. I’ll have the week 2 data posted as soon as I can.

The 40-Second Play Clock

Thursday, September 4th, 2008

As in the past, has partnered with to look at the impact of rule changes intended to shorten the length of college football games. The data from week 1 of the 2008 season is in, and so far both the number of plays and the time of game have been reduced compared to 2007.

Shorter Games, Fewer Plays

The average plays per game is down from 2007, but not quite down to the 2005 level. The average length of games is near the 2005 level.

This was just the first week of games, so the numbers can change. We’ll keep tracking them as the season moves along.
